Dollhouses |
|||||||
Sid Cooke Dollhouses are manufactured from a mixture of Birch Plywood and MDF. The main carcass of the Dollhouse is in Plywood whilst the less stressed panels such as floors and internal walls are in MDF. Ranges of hardwood mouldings are used to add architectural features and detailing to the outside. Sid Cooke Dollhouses can provide their Dollhouses fully assembled, decorated and wired. However, the vast majority are sold flat packed, in kit form. All panels are cut using modern, computer-controlled machinery. Panels are very accurately machined and you do not need to be a craftsman to assemble a Sid Cooke Dollhouse to a high standard. Simply ensuring that joints are pushed fully "home" will ensure the finished assembly is "square" and opening panels, doors and windows are a good fit. Kits come complete with all hardware and components such as windows and stairs, glue and sandpaper together with comprehensive illustrated instructions to allow you to create a professional finish. Dollhouses are frequently regarded as a children's toy. However, there is a global market for a more mature customer who can justifiably be considered Dollshouse collectors or miniaturists. Dollhouses in this market are often more sophisticated and stylish than childrens Dollhouses incorporating many realistic architectural features. Collectors Dollhouses may be a craftsman built products constructed of high quality birch plywood. The keen miniaturist will devote many hours decorating, wiring and furnishing their Dollhouses in order to achieve a realistic finish. Dollhouses such as this can be displayed in the home as works of art. Children's Dollhouses are commonly ready finished and made of less durable MDF. The most popular scale for collectors Dollhouses is 1/12th although 1/24th scale Dollhouses are becoming more popular and even 1/48th scale Dollhouses are available. As with the real thing people buying Dollhouses may seek out a particular period, so you will be able to find Tudor Dollhouses, Georgian Dollhouses, Regency Dollhouses, Victorian Dollhouses, Art Deco Dollhouses, Edwardian Dollhouses or modern Dollhouses. We try to hold stocks of all kits so that they are available for quick delivery, normally 48 hours. If we don't happen to have the desired kit "on the shelf" then we try to ship inside a week. We do not hold stocks of finished houses and customer's deed to request a delivery quotation and discuss their specific requirements regarding the level of finish. The lead-time for delivery will vary with the time of year but you should expect around 28 days. When you want something different - The difference you want is a Sid Cooke Dolls' House.
